Florida is a divisive State. I’m not saying that Floridians try to divide anything or anyone. But rather, you either love Florida or you think it is the epicenter of everything crazy!
Whatever your personal opinion is regarding The Sunshine State, you have to admit that when it comes to roadside attractions and Theme Parks, Florida is second to none! Why, just take a peek at this round Florida tin tray souvenir for the proof:
I’ll let you count how many venues there are. I’m too lazy. But I think the image above makes my point! And what is almost smack dab in the middle of all that wonderful roadside craziness?
Walt Disney World, of course! But one my other favorites is right next door: Weeki Wachee Springs. It would be interesting to see how many of these attractions are still in business. For example, Cypress Gardens did close only to be absorbed and reopened as Legoland Florida. Can you spot any other changes to the Floridian landscape?
Why is Florida known as the ‘Sunshine State’? Well, it’s the southernmost state on the continental United States. Due to its location as the closest U.S. state to the Tropic of Cancer and the Equator, Florida is renowned for its exceptionally sunny, but humid, tropical climate. Or, in other words, they get a lot of sun!
FUN FACTS: Florida is also known by other nicknames such as the ‘Alligator State’, the ‘Orange State’, and the ‘Everglade State’. Which one do you think is the most appropriate?
